Sports : SA can beat rusty Egypt - Hunt

Despite SuperSport's 2-0 loss to Al-Ahly in a CAF Champions League match in Egypt, Gavin Hunt says Bafana Bafana will have no trouble beating the Pharoahs in their Afcon qualifier on Saturday.

There are seven Ahly players in the Egyptian team, but Hunt insists: “They are rusty and Bafana can take advantage."

The six-time Champions League winners have one foot in the next round after they defeated the South African champions 2-0 in front of a packed Cairo International Stadium at the weekend.

Hunt had expected the worst in the North African country and claims that his team, who are struggling in domestic football, can overturn the deficit to go through on aggregate when they play Al-Ahly in the return leg at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane in two weeks time.

Hunt says SuperSport played the home side off the park.

“In the build-up to this game people spoke about them as if they were invincible but in fact they played like an ordinary team. We dominated them in their back yard.

"Kermit Erasmus missed golden opportunities, Morgan Gould hit the crossbar and Tebogo Langerman wasted a one-on-one golden opportunity to get that elusive away goal,” Hunt says.

The coach says Ahly’s second-minute goal rattled his team put them on the back foot. The second goal came five minutes before the end.

“We can overturn this deficit, if we play the way we did, why not? We were the better side in Cairo we just have to ensure that they don’t score or else they will kill off the contest with an away goal.

"What I can say is that I’m proud of the guys and I believe that they can cause an upset in Polokwane and come up with a plan to beat them,” said Hunt.

With the Premiership in recess for the next two weeks, Hunt will have a week to prepare his troops.

"They may be the favourites but we can still send them packing we believe in ourselves,” Hunt says. Source KICKOFF
