News : Zuma's brood gets bigger

First lady Nompumelelo "MaNtuli" Zuma has apparently given birth to a boy, according to her friends, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Named Manqoba Kholwani (Believe it) Zuma, the baby was born in a Durban hospital on Thursday, and is the president's 21st child.

Three of MaNtuli's friends told The Star about the new addition to the Zuma household, but refused to go on the record, saying it was not their place to make an announcement.

Repeated attempts to get official confirmation from the Presidency and the Zuma family proved unsuccessful last night.

Zuma is in Namibia attending a regional summit, but apparently visited mother and child in between his official duties, which included a visit to the Eastern Cape and Lesotho.
Presidential spokesman Zizi Kodwa said on Sunday night that he was unaware of the birth, but even if he were, he would not comment on the president's private life.

The Star reported on MaNtuli's pregnancy in June.

This followed reports that she was kicked out of the Zuma household just days before Christmas, accused of cheating on the president with one of the men meant to protect her.

The bodyguard committed suicide last year.

MaNtuli was not allowed to go to Nkandla as she had offended the ancestors and was not present at Zuma's marriage to his third wife, Tobeka kaMadiba, in January.

She was eventually accepted back into the Zuma household after a traditional ritual was conducted in which a goat was paid as damages. This was confirmed by one of her brothers.

Amid speculation of a split, a pregnant MaNtuli accompanied the president on a state visit to India in June.

In the past few months, she has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Earlier this year, she was left in the dark after the lights and water at her rented Morningside, Durban, mansion were not paid, while an anonymous letter was leaked to the media making damaging claims about her.

Last month, MaNtuli was ordered by the CCMA to pay one of her domestic workers R16 000 for an unfair dismissal, which has yet to be paid to the worker.

The validity of her marriage to Zuma, along with thousands of other polygamous marriages in the country, is also in question following a Pretoria High Court judgment.

The Star reported that the president's second and third marriages could be invalid, given that it appeared he did not have a court-approved prenuptial contract with MaNtuli and kaMadiba. Source IOL
