News : Zuma’s advice to Bafana

With just a day to go until Bafana Bafana’s World Cup opening match against Mexico, President Jacob Zuma on Wednesday told the team the entire nation is behind them.

He visited their training session at Wits University after a massive Bafana parade through the streets of Sandton.

“This cup has landed on this continent for the first time and it landed in South Africa. We must keep it here. All you need is to relax and play, do what you do best and don’t worry about anything,” said Zuma.

The president wished captain Aaron Mokoena and his team a lot of luck.

“Good luck, we are behind you. No South African today doubts anything, we are 100 percent behind,” said Zuma.

Bafana was on Wednesday greeted by a sea of green and gold when they drove through the streets of Sandton.

Fans came out to blow their vuvuzelas, wave flags and catch a glimpse of their heroes.

All those who lined the streets of Sandton said they hope the parade has erased any doubts the team may have about the nation’s support.

Midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala said he was simply blown away adding players will give it their all on the field.

Posters held by fans ranged from "we believe" to "on Friday, we’ll be eating tacos".

Meanwhile, Bafana team management said the players were blown away by the show of support during the parade.

Fans said they were proud of the national team and are looking forward to the opening game.
Fans also gathered in the Johannesburg CBD and Soweto’s Maponya Mall.

Bafana Bafana will have one last training session and plenty of rest on Thursday before that big opening World Cup clash on Friday.

“It will be an easy morning and then in the afternoon we will do our final preparation and final practice session,” said Bafana Bafana’s spokesman Mahlomola Morake.
