Running Out Of Life: Too Much Running May Shorten Your Life

Though excise is good for you, your heart and legs, expects say too much exercise may actually do more harm than good.

The resent study suggests that people should keep running at minimal, around 2-3 hours per week or they may risk dying early.

Researchers say people who don’t get any exercise and those who get high mileage tend to have shorter life span than those who keep it at moderate. Reasons for both are still unknown.

The new study rules out cardiac risk or use of some medication "Our study didn't find any differences that could explain these longevity differences," said Dr Martin Matsumura, co-director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Matsumura and his colleagues evaluated data from more than 3 800 men and women runners, average age 46. They were involved in the Masters Running Study, a web-based study of training and health information on runners aged 35 and above. Nearly 70% reported running more than 20 miles a week.

These findings are preliminary meaning that they are not yet official; they will remain so until they are published in health journal.
