Here are some simple green steps to help you transition into a green life:

Water Consumption

Run your washing machine and dishwasher only when you have full loads.

Use a bucket of water to wash your car instead of hosing it down.

Turn the shower off when you are soaping up.

Don’t leave the tap running when you are brushing your teeth.

Check all leaky taps and faucets and get them fixed.

Use toilet fixtures that conserve water.

Use water that you have used for washing produce to water your garden.

Use open areas in your home to collect rainwater and use them for cleaning and gardening purposes.

Electricity Consumption

Turn off lights when not in use.

Replace conventional light bulbs with energy-efficient bulbs.

Cut back on your air cooling and heating temperatures by a couple of degrees.

Turn off appliances from the main power outlet instead of keeping them on standby.

Unplug your cell phone chargers when you are not using them.

Fuel Consumption

Drive at a consistent speed. Excessive acceleration and deceleration leads to

fuel waste.

Keep your tires inflated to the recommended pressure as this will reduce drag and give you better mileage.

Avoid braking unnecessarily as you will lose momentum that you have already spent fuel to build up.

Keep your tank full in warm weather so you don’t lose fuel in the form of vapour in the empty space in your tank.

Use downward inclines to your advantage by shifting into neutral instead.

Change into higher gears at the bottom range of the recommended speed rather than at the top of the range.

Empty your car of all necessary items so you reduce the load on the engine.

Join a carpool. If there is no carpool in your neighbourhood, start one yourself.

Group trips together instead of making multiple trips.
