Setting Standards: Pepsi Part Ways With Rapper Lil Wayne Over Emmett Lyrics
Setting Standards: Pepsi Part Ways With Rapper Lil Wayne Over Emmett Lyrics

It seems brands are now setting standards for their celebrity ambassadors.

Few weeks ago clothing and shoe company Reebok sacked rapper Rick Ross for his sexually abusive lyrics on the song IEUNO, which seemed to be encouraging rape.

This week soft drink company Pepsi has parted ways with rapper Lil Wayne over disrespectful lyrics.

According to Pepsi, “offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand”

According AP Report- A publicist for Lil Wayne, Sarah Cunningham, said that the split was due to "creative differences" and that it was an amicable parting.

"That's about all I can tell you at this time," she said.

The lyrics that cost Wayne his endorsement deal are from the Song Karate Chop, where the rapper makes reference to Emmett Till.

The actual lyrics are “Pop a lot of pills, bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels,

Beat that Pu$$y up like Emmett Till”

Emmett Till is  black teen from Chicago was in Mississippi visiting family in 1955 when he was killed, allegedly for whistling at a white woman. He was beaten, had his eyes gouged out and was shot in the head before his assailants tied a cotton gin fan to his body with barbed wire and tossed it into a river.
