When you were a teenager, or in your early twenties all you wanted to do was lose your virginity, or at the very least experiment with those uncontrollable urges. You were curious about sex, and thought it would make your life complete. Ten or more years down the line you probably feel a lot different about it, longing for days gone by and thinking to yourself, “If I knew then what I knew now...”
If that sounds like you, you aren’t alone. Many people are now becoming “Secondary Virgins”. Introduced by the Christian Church in the late nineties and early 2000s, this new take on sexuality and promiscuity seems to appeal to more than just puritans and cultists. Ordinary people are joining, hoping for a fresh new start. So where can you sign up? The Society for the Recapture of Virginity is one such place, and according to their website when you sign up you will get:
A framed certificate, a wearable virgin badge and the Virginator, a special ring developed by a software program called the VRS 3000.
So what’s so special about this ring? Is it a symbol of your promise to God like a wedding ring? Not quite...
According to their website the VRS 3000 uses accurate and realistic information from the soon to be virgin using a microchip that is apparently inside the ring. It then calculates using a method called “virgination”, thereby finding an algorithm that apparently renews your virginity. The microchip allegedly corrects the user’s biorhythms using risk-free radio waves which restore ‘purity’.
Not all Secondary Virgin places are as focused on the physical. If you are truly interested you would realise that it’s not about physical purity as once that is lost it can never be found again. For most people who join through various Christian organisations it’s more about emotional and mental clarity and peace of mind. And peace of mind you will receive as just like Alcoholics Anonymous and rehab clinics, you can become a Secondary Virgin again, even if you fall of the wagon.

So if you’ve been around the block so many times you can walk through it blindfolded, this is Christianity’s way of letting you know that you can become ‘pure’ again if you wish, and encourage you to keep your vow to God.
According to brakethink.com here are five ways to become a Secondary Virgin:
- Make a firm commitment to save yourself for marriage from now on, and believe you can do it. (Because you can!)
- Get away from people, places, things and situations that weaken your self-control. Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is avoid people who tempt us.
- Avoid intense hugging, passionate kissing and anything else that leads to lustful thoughts and behaviour. Anything beyond a brief, simple kiss can quickly become dangerous.
- Find non-physical ways to show your love and appreciation.
- Remember that anyone can start over. Including you! When you focus on commitment and self-discipline, you can control your impulses.
While some have jumped on and off the bandwagon so many times it resembles a carousel, remember that when it comes to Secondary Virginity you are making a vow between yourself and God, and it should not be taken lightly. As long as you are doing it for the right reasons and keeping your promise, when you finally do find true love and get married the sacrifice will be worth millions more than it was the first time.
