Shopping for children during Christmas can be quite difficult. With so many adverts bombarding “specials” of the latest toys on the market, you would be forgiven for going a bit crazy. Children change their minds more often than they do their underwear. One minute Barbie is in the next she’s out. But by asking yourself the following questions you will be one step closer to choosing the perfect Christmas gift for your child.
What do they want? Have your children write down a list of things they want even though as a parent you know exactly what they want. If you are buying a present for someone else’s child have them do the same.
Do you know the specifics? If your child wants a Hannah Montana CD and you have never bought them one before, ask them exactly which one. When you get to the store there will be so many people running around that by the time you figure out what it is you were looking for there’s a huge chance it might be sold out.
What if you don’t find out what they want? Think about what toys your children usually like or what they are currently obsessed with. Go on the internet or ask store assistants to show you what the latest toy in that range is.
Should I buy the gift in the first place? Just because your child wants something doesn’t mean it’s the right thing for them. Some toys are not age appropriate and could do more harm than good. Make sure you check if the toy you are buying has any age restrictions.

Will the toy drive me up the wall? Buying your child the toy of their dreams is all well and good but if that toy is going to have you pulling out your hair then you might have to think twice. Yes PS2’s Sing Star game is a great gift but if your 12-year-old and her friends are going to sing at the top of their voices all day, every day then it might not be such a good idea.
Nothing beats the look of a child’s face when they receive their Christmas gift and it’s exactly what they want. To take the pressure off disappointing your children this Christmas make sure you are clued up on exactly what they want and try not to pull on straws.
